I am often asked if there are any choices for male birth control other than vasectomy. Unfortunately, the only effective, practical and safe alternatives that currently exist are abstinence, the use of condoms or other prophylactics, and withdrawal. However, I would predict that with the rapid rate of the advances we have seen in medical science, men will soon be able to simply take a pill to control the release of their sperm, just as women take a pill to control the release of their eggs. Vasectomy – Is There Another Way?
Surgery Versus Watchful Waiting In Early-Stage Prostate Cancer
The results of a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that surgery for early-stage prostate cancer was no better in saving lives than observation alone over a 10-year period. Robotic Surgery For Prostate Cancer Gets A Bad Wrap
A new study from Duke University Medical Center, led by Dr. Judd W. Moul, a prostate surgeon, suggests that men’s expectations of laparoscopic robot-assisted prostatectomy may be too high. Dr. Moul points out that those hopes may not be realistic. I disagree with this observation. Continue Reading
Finally, A Rational Reason To Recommend Circumcision
The concept of “to be or not to be,” circumcised that is, is both ageless and fraught with emotional, religious, psychological, medical, and moral issues. All sides have argued both for and against circumcision with a high degree of emotion and ill-conceived prejudice. Continue Reading

Penis Tattoo? Don’t Even Think About It
I recently came across an article in the Journal of Sexual Medicine from Kermanshah, Iran, that reported a case of priapism (an erection lasting longer than four hours) following a penile tattooing. Continue Reading
